Big Brother 13: Dick Donato Speaks About His Early Departure From Big Brother

By Mark O. Estes
via TV Overmind

Well, folks, we finally got an answer to why Dick "Evil Dick" Donato left the Big Brother house. Sort of.

Hot off the heels of another episode of Big Brother on Sunday night, RTVZone.com caught an exclusive video from the Big Brother 8 winner about his early, unexpected exit from the Big Brother house. However, the site crashed immediately after the video clip was released and remained that way for most of the night. Until now.

The video clip is up again at the site and Donato gave his fans the truth concerning his departure and seriously went in on the rumors and those who started the rumors (who he said could kiss his @$$) surrounding the reasons why he left the Big Brother house. For one, no one in his family was injured (which makes sense given that Daniele is still in the Big Brother house) and rumors of his brother being killed in a car accident is false given that he doesn't have a brother. Epic fail for whoever started that one.

However, Evel Dick managed to tell his fans, haters, and the Big Brother viewing public the reasons for leaving the house... without actually telling us exactly why, which is cool and I (as everyone else should) respect that 100%. Only thing we need to know is that someone close to Evel Dick got sick unexpectedly and he left to go help them out, as any good friend would do. Out of respect to the friend's privacy, Dick refused to comment on just what is going on with them and, seriously, you can't help but give the man an ample amount of respect for that.

Despite apologizing to his alliance members, Daniele, CBS, and the Big Brother producers and fans, Donato did say that this was one decision he would never regret.

If you want to see the clip for yourself, Click HERE. CBS will be giving the fans a full explanation on this Wednesday's installment of Big Brother.

So there you have it, folks. We finally know why Evel Dick Donato decided to leave the game. Now, I say we should leave the guy alone and let him tend to his business and focus our attention back on the remaining hamsters in the Big Brother house.

Inside the first night of 'Big Brother 13'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "Big Brother" viewers watched as eight new contestants - or houseguests, as they're more commonly called on CBS' voyeuristic reality series - converged with three pairs of veteran players on Thursday night's 13th season premiere.

Yet the audience didn't get to eavesdrop on everything that happened during the first night of the summer-long competition.

The edited hour-long premiere condensed what actually happened over the course of about six hours last Saturday when the 14 houseguests moved into the camera-filled house situated on a soundstage on the CBS Studio City lot. (The show's live Internet feeds don't broadcast what happens inside the house until after the show debuts.)

Here's some of what you didn't see on TV:

- Outside the door to the house, cocktail waitress Rachel Reilly and graduate student Brendon Villegas, who met last summer during season 12 and later became engaged, shared a quiet moment together as they waited to enter the not-so-private abode. "Don't be nervous," Brendon told her as they stood outside the door. "I'm not nervous," Rachel retorted.

- Among the declarations sputtered by outspoken season-eight winner Richard "Evel Dick" Donato after he returned to the house with his estranged daughter Danielle Donato was that he was proud of CBS for casting three black contestants. He also told the other houseguests that the producers only called him on the previous Sunday to invite him to play "Big Brother" again.

- As the cast settled into the house, crew members were busy constructing the setting for the first Head of Household competition in the backyard: a makeshift jungle composed of leafy plants and big hanging bananas that were greased up by the crew. The back door was closed, which prompted the houseguests to speculate what workout equipment would be outside.

- The houseguests usually did not shut up. Throughout the evening, they typically congregated in one large group in the kitchen and engaged in multiple introductory conversations, making it difficult to decipher what everyone was saying to each other. "The first hour in the `Big Brother' house is the best hour," exclaimed season 11 veteran Jeff Schroeder.

- The mood was surprisingly calm upstairs in the control room as a director monitored the action from more than 50 cameras. Staff transcribed the cast's conversations, while a producer in a booth interviewed partners Keith Henderson and Porsche Briggs, who were downstairs in the Diary Room. It was one of their first interactions outside the house.

- At one point in the backyard, co-executive producer Don Wollman surveyed the Head of Household preparation before he was interrupted by his own booming voice: "Houseguests, you are not allowed to talk about production." It's one of the prerecorded messages the cast will hear throughout the summer. He grinned and joked, "I'm already annoyed of that voice."

- Shelly Moore, the oldest newbie contestant at age 41, was the most star struck when the veteran couples were revealed. "It's like TV come to life!" she squealed before enthusiastically asking several of the seasoned players about what their "Big Brother" experiences were really like and what happened in their lives after leaving the show.

- The houseguests were already concocting conspiracy theories on their first night. Lawon Exum told partner Kalia Booker and part-time model Dominic Briones that he believed Porsche was actually Shelly's daughter. Several others besides Schroeder speculated that Dick and Danielle were no longer estranged but actually working closely together to win again.

- When it came time to change into color-coded uniforms for the first Head of Household competition, most of the contestants did not have any inhibitions about changing in front of the cameras - or each other. In the back bedroom, Dick instructed the male houseguests how to change clothes in the corner so that the cameras wouldn't capture their genitals.

- During the first Head of Household competition, the row of cameramen filming the houseguests hanging onto those giant bananas from behind a one-way mirror were as talkative as fans sitting on their couches at home. "Rachel's a tough chick," said one cameraman as the competitors dropped. The cast couldn't hear the chatter though. The wall is soundproof.

- After host Julie Chen revealed that the first four partners of evicted players would receive a Golden Key and be safe from elimination until the Top 10, a producer came over the speakers and explained how the twist would work in detail. When the cast queried how it would affect the Power of Veto, he told them that they would learn about it later.

[SPOILER] BREAKING NEWS

Before I even get the opportunity to write the first recap, TV Guide tweeted that "CBS confirms that Dick Donato has left the #BigBrother13 house. Details coming shortly…"

In the most sarcastic tone of voice I can manage, I say, "Oh no. I'm so upset."

As more info comes in, I will update this post.

UPDATE:
From TVGuide.com

Before the first week of Big Brother is even over, Dick Donato has left the building.

"Due to a personal matter, Big Brother houseguest Dick Donato had to leave the game unexpectedly on Thursday," CBS said in a statement. "His departure will be addressed on the episode to be broadcast on Wednesday, July 13."

Evel Dick, who originally competed in Season 8, returned to the CBS reality show this season alongside Daniele as one of the three returning duos. The pair has not spoken in three years, which caused tension in the season premiere. They were able to escape elimination though, by making a deal with Rachel, who became the first Head of Household this season.

Will you miss Dick?

No, TV Guide, I will not.

UPDATE:
From TVLine.com

Well, that didn’t take long. Not hours after the first primetime installment of Big Brother 13 aired, one of the cast members left the building — and under somewhat mysterious circumstances.

What’s more, the AWOL houseguest is not one of the unproven newbies, but one half of a returning “dynamic duo.” This person’s name: “Evel Dick” Donato.
“Due to a personal matter, Big Brother houseguest Dick Donato had to leave the game unexpectedly on Thursday,” reads a statement from CBS. “His departure will be addressed on the episode to be broadcast on Wednesday, July 13.”

Donato apparently went missing shortly after the season premiere. As seen in Showtime’s BB: After Dark feed, he apparently entered the Diary Room and never came out, leaving his partner/estranged daughter Daniele confused, EW.com reports.
Donato’s exit is sure to have a ripple effect, given that he was the winner of Season 8, and promised to keep things “interesting.”

CBS’ go-to summertime crowd-pleaser, Big Brother returned to strong numbers on Thursday, winning the night in both total viewers (7.7 million, up 3 percent from last year’s opener) and in the demo (with a 2.7 rating, up 13 percent).
